LIMBERLOST LTD.
"Thinking in Generations - not Seasons"

FIVE to EIGHT YEAR - MAINTENANCE-FREE - 4 COAT FINISH

"We apply the mirror-coat finish so you don't have to."

Our customers are telling us that the Limberlost furniture they have purchased over the years is providing in excess of five to eight years of maintenance-free beauty and protection as a result of our exclusive 4-coat finishing process.

Please bear in mind that shade and people's tastes will vary. We are only repeating customer comments; this is in no way meant to be construed as a guarantee of the life of the finish. Our own porch swing has hung outside our showroom (for six years, as of August 2008). It has never been touched up, never been covered and never been brought inside since new. The swing remains in a condition that I am proud to display to my customers.

Product features:

  • Most Limberlost LEISURE CHAIRS are ergonomically designed with six back slats, ensuring a space and not a wooden slat is running under your spine. An odd number of back slats would position solid wood under your backbone.
  • Limberlost places no visible screws on the upper surfaces of any of our leisure chairs and benches. Nothing but finished wood is visible when viewing Limberlost chairs and benches. All fastening is done from the underside to eliminate any possibility of rainwater entering the wood through the screw pockets of competitive products. Without a doubt, the Limberlost chair is the cleanest looking piece of furniture you will ever find.
  • All Limberlost products are made from 100% clear (no knots) kiln-dried Western Red Cedar. We import all our Western Red Cedar from selected British Columbian mills.
  • All joints are glued using a PVA (polyvinyl acetate) glue, which will never become brittle within a joint.
  • Where applicable, we use mortise and tenon joinery.
  • Screws are brown ceramic-coated to provide an industry rated standard that is 10 times the life of zinc-coated screws. At the same time the colour of the brown ceramic-coated screws will not clash with the natural hues of the Western Red Cedar.
  • Four and sometimes five coats of Sikkens Cetol-1 Colour 078 Natural are used on all "natural" finished products. Our finishing process takes one full week to complete.
  • The finish contains everlasting Ultra Violet "REFLECTORS" which act like mirrors to reflect U.V. radiation away from the wood. Other finishes may rely on self-destructing Ultra Violet "ABSORBERS" to protect the wood.
  • Glider mechanisms used on all glider furniture contain pre-lubricated, stainless steel, ball-bearing movements for a lifetime of trouble-free service.

Available non-standard finishes include: painted finishes.

Any Benjamin Moore or Sico color is available for use on any product. To avoid any possibility of error it is necessary the provide us with all of the following information.

  1. Name of paint manufacturer (Benjamin Moore or Sico). eg. Sico
  2. Color name eg. Voilet Dream
  3. Color Code eg 6030-21

All non-standard finishes, such as paint, and coloured stains require additional cleaning of the equipment used in our spray finishing. This additional cleaning step is required for every coat of the non-standard finish. All this addition cleaning is imperative to avoid all possibility of color contamination between the requested non-standard color and our standard finishes. To cover the cost of the additional labor required for these additional cleaning steps an additional 8% paint surcharge is added to the standard cost of the piece for non-standard requests.

Maintenance (Standard Finish):

The standard finish on your product should last a minimum of 5 - 8 years without maintenance in direct unobstructed sunlight. (Much longer if used in shady conditions).

When the finish loses its glossy appearance, sand lightly with a 220 grit sandpaper (you are not trying to remove the old finish - just remove most of the remaining gloss).

Apply one or two coats of "Sikkens Cetol-1 Colour 078 Natural" using a pure bristle brush. (Never use a synthetic brush - for example, nylon - with an oil-based finish).

Allow 24 hours for drying between each coat and before use.

Touch-up

Minor nicks, scratches and scuff marks can usually be removed in the following manner: This method is intended only for very minor damage and is not intended to repair more serious damage that has actually damaged or removed the wood itself. More serious damage may have to be referred to a professional furniture refinisher.

  1. Take a piece of dry paper towel. Tightly twist up one of the corners  and dip it into the Sikkens Cetol-1 finish.
  2. Rub the mark with the wet part of the paper towel first against the grain and then with the grain. Do this several times reversing the directions each time but always wind up where the final pass is rubbed in the direction that is with the grain.
  3. Let the piece sit for no more than 30 seconds. Then take a dry part of the same paper towel and lightly rub the spot dry by rubbing in the direction that is with the grain.
  4. For more major damage, you may have to sand the part to a bare state and/or fill the damage part before applying up to 4 coats of Sikkens Cetol-1 Colour 078 Natural. FOR MAJOR DAMAGE IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED THAT YOU TRY TO “SPOT FINISH” A REPAIR.

MORE MAJOR DAMAGE NORMALLY REQUIRES THE REMOVING, SANDING AND REFINISHING OF THE ENTIRE PART. (Find out about replacement parts.)
